GG: Odyssey vs. Sony

A couple of days ago someone mentioned that they had found the GG beethoven
sonatas on odyssey, for some $10 (I found $20) less than the sony ones, and
were wondering what the difference between the two are. If you get the
Odyssey, it is cheaper but it is not remastered like the Sony "Glenn
Gould Edition". It is arguable however that this is not necesarily a bad
thing. Though you have to deal with a
little more hiss, I find that it has a more authentic feeling to it. How so?
Well you can hear much more of his chair, him singing, and I also have
noticed a very slight loss, possibly, of clarity in the treble in the remastered
version, although I may be crazy. Another difference is the second volume of
sonatas on odyssey doesn't have op. 109, 110, or 111, so you would have to
spend another $45 to get the second volume of the Sony edition if you want
those sonatas. The second volume of the odyssey version has the Bagatelles,
Op. 33, and Op. 126, as well as the "Eroica" Variations, Op. 35, instead of the
late sonatas. Sony sells this on another double disk set with other Beethoven
Variations, so buying Odyssey can actually buying the complete Gould Beethoven
works more expensive.
