[Fwd: HELP!!]

--- Begin Message --- The quote from Karajan is referred to in the final chapter of Peter Ostwald, a friend of Gould's.  It is:
"For the next generation [Gould] will be regarded as an outstanding musician who combined the musical impact of his playing technique with impeccable taste.  He created a style which led to the future."

The quote is footnoted as coming from John McGreevy, ed., Glenn Gould: By HImself and His Friends, Toronto and Garden City, NY: Doubleday, 1983, p.12

The above book was presented to me when I graduated in 1986, and now checking the sources, I find that the entire forward was written by HVK, and it reads in its entirety:

"Glenn Gould is certainly one of the greatest losses we have suffered in recent years.  It must be over 25 years since we made music together and became close friends.  When I heard him play, I had a feeling that I was myself playing because his music making appealed so exactly to my own musical sense.
I regret that since he no longer wished to travel, we were unable to make music and records again.
For the next generation he will be regarded as an outstanding example of a musician who combined the musical impact of his playing technique with impeccable taste.  He created a style which led the way to the future.
I shall never forget our collaboration."

I hope this helps!  (GG will be 66 years old on Sept 25.)  Good luck!

Thanks to all who have sent me suggestions for our BBC Glenn Gould Night
idea. Good to have your support - I'm getting through individual replies
slowly!

I'm just trying a first stab at writing the treatment (ie why this would
be a great way of spending the company's money) to send give to our
controller.

I remember that in one of the recent books about Gould there is a
complimentary quote about him from Karajan, and since people in senior
positions in companies always seem to love HVK I thought I'd use it as a
heading.

PROBLEM: All my books are at home and my girlfriend is out. Does anyone
happen to have the one by the Doctor with the blue cover (the book not
the doctor of course) to hand and could look up HVK in the index and
send me the quote?? I'm pretty sure it's that one, though it could be
the Freidrich. I'll be working away here for another hour or so...

Thanks!

ps: My brief also includes the line "Themed evenings introduced by
leading cultural figures are especially welcomed" - anyone know any of
the above who might be interested in the project? Edward Said??

Thanks again.
