Re: Alternate GG Edition info

Thanks, Tim, for digging up this review of Sony's handling of the Gould
recordings. There were sporadic issues of Gould on CD from CBS, before
the Glenn Gould Edition came out, and even before Sony became the name
of the label.
I have the Beethoven and Mozart on Odyssey, which was a bargain priced
label of CBS Masterworks.
In the Glenn Gould Edition, they pad the cost of a set by spreading it
over more discs - I have the WTC on 3 CDs (CBS M3K 42266), while it is
spread over four in the GGE.
I very much doubt if the Odyssey discs mentioned are still available.
For those of us who were collecting the CBS, Music and Arts and Bis
Gould CDs, the GGE came as a tremendous rip-off. It seemed designed to
ensure that we would have to buy new discs for the sake of a few minutes
of previously unreleased material.
So, the upshot is, there is no unheard Gould material in Naxos' hands.
