Re: New GG work

Hi James,

GG wrote this for two fellow students at the Toronto Conservatory, who
played it at an informal get-together...that was the only performance. Each
kept their score - actually, GG wrote separate parts, not a complete score.
These two musicians remain friends, and recently decided they'd donate their
respective manuscripts to the Conservatory in Toronto - a nice gesture, I
think, in view of everyone's personal history there and also because of the
GG School. Because of the impending Gould Day they contacted the CBC, and
all the bits fell into place for an actual broadcast. I'm looking forward to
hearing it, too.

Thank you Hele,

I will listen for it. Do you know how "it came to light"?

James

Hi again,

Forgot to mention that a new GG composition dating from 1951 has just come
to light. It's a duo in three movements for clarinet and bassoon, very
Bach-like, which is unusual for a time when he was composing atonal music.
It's been authenticated and will show up on CBC Radio Two's Variations on
Gould broadcast on Sept 25....in the concert segment beginning at 8:00 PM.
