Er, the airport is at Keflavik, not Reykjavik.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Oh, Gould content? OK. That landscape around Keflavik, what a Gouldian
paradise. Echt North. Not a tree in sight (which is really strange when
you're standing there and suddenly realize it). I had a couple of hours
of layover in the Keflavik airport once, and the airline gave any of us a
free lift out to the hot spring for a little adventure. So hey, free
adventure. About twenty minutes on a bus through the bizarre lava-land,
and then some time soaking in that warm salty spring and talking with the
odd assortment of people who happened to be there. There's "the idea of
north" for you, I must say.

Back to the airport and its two duty-free shops, and I stocked up on as
many Icelandic music CDs as my budget would allow. Mostly the traditional
tunes (wild and so isolationist/northern as they are, and get a load of
all those parallel fifths, such a stark sound!), plus a pretty good piano
trio playing Icelandic jazz, all attributed to Icelandic composers. (Who
knew?)

OK Elmer, bjack to your bjeer.
