Well, they just built a new state-of-the-art concert hall in my city.
Subscriptions are always sold out. Even so, I tend to agree that
GG was right about this prediction in at least one way: recordings,
radio, and TV is now how people get their classical music today.

Concert halls seem to me to be nothing but a live showcase
for the local cummunity. Even if an artist goes on a world
wide tour, they will only play to a fraction of the audience
that recordings can reach. Recordings and video are today's
modern music miracle. They bring the music to everyone. No
concert hall needed. In my lifetime, I will never get to see 99
percent of my favorite artists live on stage. The only way is on
video and recordings.

That said, I still love to go to live concerts. And I like live
recordings better than studio recordings, audience noise
and all. If you think of the amazing advances in recording
technology in the last 100 years it blows the mind. Some
may argue recordings killed classical music once and for all.
Others may argue recordings keep it alive.

What will the next 100 years bring us in recording technology?
I'm not sure but I put on my GG thinking cap and brainstormed
some things- here is my wish list for new music technology in
the future:

- A cable TV network that broadcasts live concerts and
recitals from around the world every night.

- Tune in to these live recitals on the TV of the future
that holographically projects the musicians in life size
3D right in your living room! Or playback them back on disk.
Think about it- life size 3D holographic projections will
one day be a technological common-place reality. These
projections will look very real and lifelike- but they'll
be just projections. This technology is already in
development. It would be quite something to press a button
and have GG sitting at a piano in life size 3D in your living
room! It wasn't too long ago when audio was mono and
TV's where not in color, and there was only 3 or 4 local
TV stations. Now, we have dolby surround sound stereo,
VCR's, cable TV, satalite TV, etc... Holographic projections
are coming- it's just a matter of when.

Anyone have more brainstorm future music technology ideas
out there?
