Re: GG Article

Give 'em hell, Fred!

Anybody remember calculus class? From beginning to end, there wasn't a single "review" of Newton's work by a critic. But in his day, Newton actually had critics! And here's what Goethe said about them: "Every whale has its louse."

Subject: GG Article

Dear James,
Perhaps you are right, I should share what I wrote.  Please understand that I wrote this in a rather heated state of mind and if I had taken the time to cool off I probably would have done a better job of it, but here goes:

Dear Editor,
As a fan of Glenn Gould and a student of Bach I think that the article by Kevin M. Grace, Sept.23, 2002 is very offensive.

One would think that a person with so little knowledge of the subject could keep his opinions to himself.

I find it hard to believe that a Canadian would take such a cheap shot at a fellow Canadian that has earned such a wide reputation all over the world for his genius.

Perhaps the article by Mr. Grace was written as a ploy to see how many people are reading the magazine.  I read it once, and that was enough for me.

That is what I wrote.  Someone else could probably do a better job but I felt that I had to respond and I am the kind of person that does.
