In his last message to me, Jim mentioned Robert Hill playing Bach with a lute
harpsichord. I'd be grateful for an simple explanation of what it is.

I am now listening to the wonderful BWV907 Fantasia (that I never heard
performed on the piano). What a serenity! At first I thought it was TWO
instruments, a duo: one lute and one harpsichord. It turns out to be one
instrument? There is also some nice echo present and music really sounds
celestial, although very ancient.

By the way, Gould seems to have omitted the piece. Maybe it was not organised
enough for him or not suitable for piano?
